Some of the region’s top young tennis players will return to Los Cab this summer as the 117th annual Southern California Tennis Association Junior Sectionals will be held at the club June 15-17 and June 19-23. An SCTA Level 1 event as well as a USTA Level 3 event, the Junior Sectionals have been held at Los Cab for nearly four decades. There are divisions for boys and girls singles players 10U to 18U as well as boys and girls 18U doubles.
About a thousand players are expected to compete and they come to Fountain Valley from all over the region, as it is considered the SCTA’s biggest junior tournament of the year. Players who have competed in the event and gone on to become household names include Tracy Austin, Lindsay Davenport, Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson, Pete Sampras and Michael Chang.
“The quality of tennis is always very high,” said Tracy Harris of the tennis desk. “We have a lot of members who come to watch the matches toward the end of the tournament as players battle for championship titles in their divisions.”
