More than 120 members have been braving the elements at Los Cab’s pool during the club’s annual Polar Bear Challenge, which runs throughout January and February, and challenges participants to log at least 25 miles or hours in the pool. Those who achieve the goal are rewarded with a commemorative long-sleeve Tshirt.
“It’s always so encouraging to see everyone swimming in spite of the cold pool deck,” Fitness Director Marianne Grossman said. “Although the air temperature might be in the 40s, the temperature in the 50-meter pool is around 80, and that makes a huge difference. I think many swimmers would agree that getting out of the pool is the probably most challenging.”
